In a notable achievement, Kanga was nominated in the Best Small Employer category at the prestigious Working Families Awards 2024. The ceremony, held on June 26th, saw entries from major corporations (highlighting the significance of this recognition for Kanga) such as bp, British Heart Foundation, HSBC, Bank of England, Royal Air Force and Microsoft UK, as well as smaller businesses such as Aldermore Bank and Independent Living Fund Scotland.
The nomination underscores Kanga’s commitment to prioritising its workforce based on the belief that a happy team delivers meaningful results for our clients and their patients. To this end, the company has implemented a fully flexible working culture that enables employees to perform at their best.
The success of our family-friendly policies is evident in our average employee tenure of 5.2 years, which is double that of our competitors.
This nomination for the Working Families Award not only recognises our current efforts but also sets the stage for a continued commitment to creating a supportive, flexible and family-friendly work environment.
Looking ahead, we plan to further invest in our benefits package and focus on equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and wellbeing initiatives to enhance this positive trend.
But why were we nominated?
For our progressive policies: Our approach to flexible working is comprehensive and employee-centric. From day one, staff members are encouraged to consider how they can work flexibly to balance their home and work commitments. The company offers a range of working arrangements, including home, hybrid and remote working, as well as flexi or part-time hours. This commitment to flexibility is enshrined in employee contracts and detailed in the company handbook.
Flexibility and support for parents and carers are championed from the top, with the CEO leading by example. All staff, including senior leaders, work flexibly. The leadership team has access to various training and support options, including sessions on virtual management, communication skills and handling difficult conversations.
Our team are granted autonomy to manage their working hours around personal circumstances, including time off for medical appointments, caring commitments and personal development. We also provide an enhanced Maternity and Adoption Pay package that exceeds Statutory Maternity Pay, with pay rises and pension contributions continuing during leave periods.
For our holistic approach to employee well-being: We take a holistic approach to employee well-being, implementing measures to reduce and manage stress. We have an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), which provides 24/7 access to BCAP-trained counsellors and practical advice for both work and personal issues. We’ve also appointed in-house EDI and wellbeing champions who have arranged EDI training and expanded our benefits package. Mental health first aiders are also available in-house to assist employees when needed.
Here’s to our happy people who love what they do!
