To celebrate Congleton, and to continue our unwavering support of our hometown, Kanga has sponsored Congleton’s 750th Charter Year and a heraldic flag on Mountbatten Way, outside our offices. Buildings in Congleton town centre are currently awash with sixty heraldic flags as part of a flag trail to recognise the momentous occasion.
Dedication to Our Glorious Town
We live and breathe where we work and live, and we are extremely proud to have stuck to our roots. Where many other agencies are based in large cities, we have remained located in our CEO, Kay Wesley’s, town where she first incorporated Kanga as an agency in her spare room back in 2013.
Most recently Kanga was a Platinum Sponsor for Congleton Pride, where Kay took to the stage to speak about her views on inclusivity and LGBTQIA+ rights in Congleton, and more generally, which was moving and very well received by the crowd of locals. Kay attended the event as a Pride trustee and represented Kanga, the Cheshire East Women’s Equality Party, and the Elizabeth Group.
Alongside being our CEO, Kay, was elected as a Councillor to Congleton Town Council in May 2019 and plays a key role in the planning of Congleton’s 750th Celebration. Kay is chair of the Anti-Social Behaviour Working Group and the Community and Environment Committee, she also is a part of groups and committees such as: town planning, health and wellbeing, domestic violence, integrated transport, green and regeneration working groups.
Contributing to Cheshire’s Healthcare Corridor
In the leafy town of Cheshire, Congleton is surrounded by healthcare giants in its peripheral, such as Astra Zeneca’s Macclesfield global manufacturing site, Alderley Park (a leader in the field of life sciences) and the new Christie’s Cancer Centre in Macclesfield. The Christie at Macclesfield opened in December 2021 and benefits patients from Cheshire, the High Peak area of Derbyshire and parts of North Staffordshire who would normally have to travel long distances for their cancer treatment at The Christie in Withington, Manchester.
We have been pooling talent at our Congleton offices for 9 years and have been committed to providing employment opportunities for local people. We currently have approximately 40 digital experts on our team, and actively take work experience students, from local colleges and high schools, under our wing to learn more about the industry, and to give back to the next generation of pharma digital superstars in the area!
Pharmaceutical production employment in Cheshire is 15 times higher than the national level, and an estimated 37.5% of the region’s and 7.7% of the UK’s pharmaceutical production jobs are in Cheshire. Around 1,800 people are employed at Astra Zeneca Macclesfield alone, where they manufacture, pack and distribute medicines to 130 global markets.

The Thirteenth Century was a golden age of heraldry, and the flags were designed to observe heraldic tradition. The town centre flags are purely symbolic without words or numbers, they are very pertinent to Congleton, using a modern twist which reflects our market town.
Let’s Celebrate!
The 750th Charter Year presents a unique chance to bring the people of Congleton together to celebrate the history of our beautiful town, the things that make Congleton special.
Congleton is holding a free fun day in Congleton Park on Saturday 13 August to mark the Charter Year. The day will include jousters, falconry, dragons, and medieval fun! You will also have the chance to go on a dragon quest, enjoy quality local food and drink, join in craft making, visit local stalls, enjoy live music, meet the Ale taster, Catchpole, Mayor, and Town Crier.
There are many more events later in 2022 too, such as ale tasting, a medieval banquet, a beer festival, and much more! The medieval festivities are set to run until October 2022.
